Subject: The WD
Hello!
I wanted to post a little something about my experience with the WD.
Better late than never!
She is a beaut!
One of a kind!
And I will encourage anyone who is interested, to participate in the
project.
When the UPS man delivered the WD to my door I could not wait to get
it
unpacked...when my wife saw it, she said hmmm, it looks rather unusual...then
I proceeded to play it for about an hour...and she said... WOW! it sounds
great!
The WD is one of those of those didjs that you can not play/blow to
hard,
it pulled some incredibly fast rhythms out of me, and was made to toot!
Recording myself was a new experience...and was very enlightening...it
was interesting listening to myself...hearing something I liked, and
then
playing/reproducing it again...it certainly has improved my playing.
I recorded a submission for DP3, and part of it, was to be put on the
WD
submission page, it had some blistering rhymes, but as I was playing
with it, my computer gobbled it up, and in my haste... I had not backed
it up, and the WD had already moved on...boy was I disappointed...but
I had some practice files, that it was based on, and decided even though
they were not technically/creatively what I desired to submit, it was
important
that I make a submission...this brought up some childhood memories...
I grew on the shores of Gitchie Guummee(Lake Superior) on Chewamegon
Bay(Ashland, Wisconsin) next to Odanah and the Bad River Indian reservation...when
visiting my childhood Chipiwa Indian friends...if we were not searching
for interesting Grandfather Stones(unique to the area) we would make
small birch bark canoes...once I madeone... and was so proud of it,
that I held it up and exclaimed that it was perfect...one of my
friends came over and stepped on it, and as I looked down at the pieces,
I
asked why he had done that, and he explained that it was not permitted
to make anything that was flawless, because that was reserved for the
Creator.
Sooo...perhaps the original recording was just between me, the WD, and
the Creator...it is interesting when we get an idea of what "perfection"
is and then try to impose it on the world around us, I suppose it limits
us and sets us up to be in competition with ourselves, others, and the
Creator.
This seems to take the "joy" out of life.
Well the WD brought me "joy" and I sincerely hope that it brings all
the
participants, joy, peace and the freedom to "create" without having
to be perfect or impose their idea of what is "perfect" on anyone/anything.
Guan, Brandi, Mike, and all the participants who have shared their
breath/spirit with the spirit of the WD....THANK YOU!
Robbin
